On Friday, April 10 2026, UniPod Botswana proudly hosted the Enhancing Capacities of Women & Youth-Led Enterprises for Regional Trade engagement.
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), in partnership with the International Trade Centre (ITC), the COMESA Federation of Women in Business (COMFWB), the Trade and Development Fund (TDF), and the Better Than Cash Alliance (BTCA), announced the commencement of a five-year project: ‘Enhancing Capacities of Young Women and Youth-Led Enterprises for Regional Trade’ (ECoWYERT).The project will operate across Botswana, DRC, Malawi, South Africa, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
The project seeks to increase the participation of youth and women-led MSMEs in regional value chains under the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA). Our focus is on enhancing enterprise capabilities, facilitating access to finance, and fostering an ecosystem that is more responsive to the unique needs of young entrepreneurs. To ensure the project interventions are evidence-based, UNDP conducted a comprehensive "country scan" in Botswana.
This exercise assessed current needs and opportunities and validated the project's core assumptions. The findings will be instrumental in tailoring the project to Botswana's specific context. The lead Consultant, Dr Keneuoe Thibello-Maphosa, facilitated the engagement and contributed to shaping inclusive trade ecosystems for women and youth-led businesses in Botswana
